Why is 8K is our brand name, well the full name was “8K the price of love”. It is the story of how we fell in love.
So, let’s get the story started.
Colleen
Originally from Syracuse, upstate New York – moved to Texas after post graduate college and settled in Texas and has called it home ever since. As a hardworking executive, widowed and a single Mother to Mitch, it was difficult to find the time to date and meet people. So, an alternate and less traditional way was needed to find true love.
Derek
Originally from Glasgow, Scotland who landed in Texas working for an oil and gas company, making Texas his home. Divorced and with one son, Craig, he found it difficult to find time to date and meet people. So, an alternate and less traditional way was needed to find true love.
Less Traditional Alternative
Online dating, they tried it, but it wasn’t for them. what happened next was both applied to the same matchmaking company at different times.
Both attended, separately, a 4 hour interview and the matchmaker then set about finding “matches”.
The Match
Colleen had several dates – it was good to meet others, but none gave her the spark she was searching to find. Disappointed, she decided to cancel the contract with the agency.
The Matchmaker said, “Give me a couple of days as there is one guy we want to introduce you to – his name is Derek”. She agreed, but a week later there was still no call from Derek.
Colleen talked with her friends – who vetted
each date and nodded approval or not. A practice best done over a glass of wine of course. Derek’s profile was approved by “the Besties” now both of the besties are their best friends. Derek had one date – Colleen. Her profile and photo from the matchmaker were exactly what he was looking for in a mate. So, he called immediately to talk and arrange their first date.
Love and wine – 8K the price of love. First Date
The first date took place at the Canyon Cafe in Houston, 18 December 2011.
During the subsequent dates, the timeline was unraveled – “I called the day I got the profile”, Derek said. “I had your profile a week earlier, and had been told you were calling right away”, Colleen stated.
They laughed and realized, perhaps the Matchmaker was lucky rather than good at her job. Through the next several ‘get to know each other’ conversations they learned the price of love. Colleen paid 5K for the Matchmaker and Derek paid 3K – hence the wine being called 8K, the price of love. A happy ending, indeed, as two people fell in love and two families came together as one.
